Sexual health awareness campaign, A4 posters
The National Assembly for Wales launched a sexual health campaign to tackle the continuing increase in cases of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in Wales.
The objective of the campaign was to raise awareness primarily through ‘convenience’ advertising with a series of information posters placed in the toilet areas of more than 270 nightclubs, pubs, and universities and colleges across Wales. Suzanne McKeown, sexual health specialist at the National Assembly, said: “We chose the method of convenience advertising as research from similar campaigns in other countries has shown it to be successful in conveying sexual health messages to young people. It is a highly targeted method of getting information across as the venues have been selected to match the demographic profile of the campaign’s target audience.”
The posters weren carefully designed to convey key messages in an appealing manner for the target age group. Memorable slogans were accompanied by strong visuals and the Sexual Health Wales helpline number.
Suzanne McKeown added: “For the campaign to be successful, we need young people to take notice. By adopting a factual and non-judgmental approach in our information, we hope that young people will have the necessary details to make healthy and informed choices about their sexual health.”
