Case study: Warm Wales website

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

Our Client

Warm Wales – Cymru Gynnes is a community interest and ‘not for profit’ organisation, set up to deliver fuel poverty and associated programmes in Wales. They aim to alleviate fuel poverty in Welsh homes by delivering dedicated programmes of work. We were tasked with updating the Warm Wales – Cymru Gynnes brand along with developing a fully bilingual content managed website.

The Problem

Warm Wales – Cymru Gynnes’ previous site design looked amateur, did not adequately portray the new services they provide and was a ’static’ site ie. All changes needed to be done by the developer; which they felt that was not cost effective.

The Brief

Warm Wales – Cymru Gynnes’ new needs were a website:

  • that they could update and edit themselves
  • was bi-lingual (Welsh and English) but not two separate sites to update and
  • where they could upload informational documents for downloading
  • which looked professional and appealed to their target audience, both householders and housing developers
  • had the option to password protect pages.

The Solution

Pentagon answered Warm Wales – Cymru Gynnes’ needs by designing and developing a Content Managed Website (CMS) using WordPress.

The new design looks both contemporary and professional and the CMS enables the Warm Wales – Cymru Gynnes team to easily add news items, job vacancies, case studies and documents etc. in both languages. They can also password protect any number of pages, a facility they use for example in their press centre.

The site features an easy to use interface for adding bilingual content.

Breadcrumb navigation shows the user's path to their current location.

Visitors to the new site can easily find what they require by navigating the simple menu structure or using the search facility. Key areas of the site are also highlighted by using graphic ‘calls to action’ and the use of a breadcrumb trail ensures the user always knows their position within the site.

The site code is very search engine friendly and sitemaps are in place that automatically notify Google, Bing, etc. of changes to the content. Warm Wales – Cymru Gynnes can also view detailed statistics about visitors to their website by the inclusion of Google Analytics.

“I would like to praise and thank Pentagon Design for their promptness, efficiency and for their emphasis on delivering ‘on-time’ and ‘on-budget’ projects. Derryl and the Pentagon team were able to quickly understand Warm Wales’ requirements and deliver a modern, fresh site to express ourselves as a company to the communities we work in. They provide very professional and flexible services that met, and continue to meet all of our objectives and are a pleasure to work with.” – James Whelan, Warm Wales – Cymru Gynnes

Case Study: Eastlake Group

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

In November 2008, Eastlake Group announced an £8m merger with Work Inc. Here you will find a selection of work produced before the merger.

Refreshing a brand.

We were charged with refreshing the primary identifying mark for eastlake group and creating an updated collection of brand guidelines.

The eastlake group is a market leader in the provision of workplace services and products, structured around six businesses. Each business operate individually, though all can be combined to provide a complete holistic approach to support facilities management and implementing positive changes to the working environment.

It was crucial that the positioning and guidelines provided a framework to build consistent communication of the brand throughout the group without limiting creativity.

To date, we have been commissioned to produce:

  • Brand Guidelines
  • Stationery
  • Brochures
  • Individual company websites
  • On-screen presentational multimedia

“Pentagon Design work closely with their customers, supporting them with a highly talented, experienced and committed team. Kitchen Devils Rebranding

After being commissioned to rebrand Kitchen Devils, our approach began with extensive research, surveys and focus groups, which gave support and direction to the design proposals. Careful consideration was given to the positioning of the brand, to take Kitchen Devils forward to connect with its target markets.

We have now completed the packaging design for all the Kitchen Devils knife ranges, which are now in production and were launched in store in January 2008:

  • Lifestyle: Core product range of 23 products consisting of knives, kitchen gadgets and gift packs.
  • Control: An innovative new kitchen knife range which has won the prestigious ‘Red Dot’ design award.
  • Professional: A range of 13 products, consisting of individual knife packs, knife sets and knife block.
  • Chopping Boards: A range of wooden and plastic chopping boards.
  • Knife Blocks: Packaging design for an ever growing list of Kitchen Devils knife blocks!

We have also completed the 2009 product catalogue and product range data sheets. In March 2010 we launched the new, refreshed website, replacing the original launch site, built in 2008.
